In the past few months we have had to navigate unprecedented challenges that we never imagined. The Plainville Public Library knows how much you value the library and all we do and we have missed you all. With the Commonwealth’s phased reopening plan announced the Plainville Public Library is not yet open to the public. The Library building is closed to the public but Contactless Takeout is available by calling 508-695-1784 Monday through Thursday between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Staff will be happy to look for items here on our shelves for you whether it is a specific titles or just three good mysteries or books for a third grader. Our book drops are now open for returns. Please note that any items returned to us will be quarantined for 72 hours as recommended by the CDC before our staff handle them for checkin. All items will be checked in fine free until the social distancing limits are lifted. Book Drops are located at the Library and in the Wood School Parking lot on Messenger St. We understand you have questions about when we can be open for browsing and computer usage, but we are starting slowly and understand the Commonwealth’s Reopening Plan has library browsing starting in Phase 2. So as of right now we do not have a specific date to open the building to the public. We thank you for your loyalty and understanding as we work through reopening and meeting your needs. Please know we have already been working hard to socially distance our staff work areas and public computers, limit customer seating inside, create dedicated entrance and exit doors and directional pathways, provide for regular sanitation of high touch areas and comply with the Mandatory Safety Standards for Workplaces. The Plainville Public Library is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving and assisting you and your family with Contactless Takeout and all of our wonderful online resources. Stay Well! - Melissa Are you a cook? Do you have a recipe you love? Share it with us and we'll share it with EVERYONE on social media. The Plainville Public Library can now offer Contactless Takeout service for Plainville residents only. Residents may call the library at 508-695-1784 Monday – Thursday 10am -2pm and talk to a staff member who will then pull items from our shelves to fulfill their needs. Items will be left in paper bags with names outside the front door for pickup by the resident. We consider this an especially important service for those who do not have access to eBooks as we are providing needed reading material for those to stay home and read. All items will not be due back until June 4, so please consider doing this once to stock up during this unprecedented time. Any items you currently have on your library card are now due back June 4. The Library is not accepting returns until we can open the building to the public, the book drop is locked.
The Plainville Public Library has just extended due dates on everything you currently have checked out on your card until JUNE 4. And yes that includes anything that was overdue PRIOR to March 1. The Library is closed at least through May 4 due to the Stay at Home order, and we are not taking returns at this time as our book drop is locked. Extending the due dates well past the current order will give you ample time. We don’t want you to feel rushed to bring things back when we hopefully reopen and we certainly didn’t want to charge anyone fines for items they have currently checked out. We have also frozen the holds list so everything will be exactly as it was when we get back.
