Volunteers Needed

The Friends of the library are looking for volunteers to learn and take over some important tasks:
Book Sale Chairperson - go through all the donations on a weekly basis and put out for sale. Organize the book sales.
Puzzle Sale Chairperson - go through all the completed puzzles, then bag and tape. Organize the puzzle sale.
Gardener - maintain the library’s beds - weed, deadhead, and cut back the plants in the fall.
Treasurer - attend (10) monthly meetings , make decisions based on the agenda and pay all programming, passes, magazines subscriptions, staff’s wish list items, submit state annual reports, and taxes.

BOOK SALES 2026

The Friends of the Plainville Public Library will hold their Book Sales during normal library hours in the conference room. Prices are 50 cents for Children’s
books and $1 for all Adult and Young Adult books including Mass Market/Trade/Hardcover, Graphic Novels, CDs, DVDs, and Books-on-CDs. CASH
ONLY. The sales will be as follows: 

JANUARY 24 - 31, 2026 - LIBRARY DISCARDS
JUNE 18 - 26, 2026 – CHILDREN'S BOOKS

There will be a $5 bag sale on the last day of each sale, January 31 and June 26, in the conference room only for the above genres. We supply the bag you fill it. CASH ONLY.
Also available will be our on-going sale of children’s books, adult books in the Friends’ hallway, Best Sellers, books of gift-giving quality, games, and puzzles of which are not included in the bag sale. Prices range from $1-$5. CASH ONLY. Donations accepted year-round during library hours. The library’s hours are Mondays & Tuesdays 9-5, Wednesdays & Thursdays 10-8, Fridays 1-5, and Saturdays 9-1 until June. PUZZLE SALE 2026

​The Friends of the Plainville Public Library will hold their 10th annual Big Puzzle Sale on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Town Hall Meeting room from 8:30am- 12:00pm. The sale will continue in the library’s conference room during normal library hours from May 26-30.

Over 1,000 puzzles from 300 to 2,000 pieces and games. All puzzles were completed by our puzzle volunteers to ensure completeness and are in bags. Prices are $2.00 unless otherwise marked for single puzzles, $3.00 for new puzzles, $5.00 for multi-pack puzzles and games from $1.00-$5.00. CASH ONLY.

We accept puzzle donations year-round during library hours. The library’s regular hours are Mon & Tues. 9:00-5:00pm, Wed. & Thurs. 10:00-8:00pm, Fri. 1:00-5:00pm, and Sat. 9:00-1:00pm. THE FRIENDS OF THE
PLAINVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY, INC.

​The Friends of the Plainville Public Library, Inc. offer books and puzzles for sale year-round at the entrance to the library and in the Friends Hallway. Books are sorted into categories for easy browsing! Funds from the book sales go directly to the Friends of the Plainville Public Library to help support the library with programs, materials and passes. 

Donating Materials for the Book and Puzzle Sales

​We accept donations of books, puzzles, DVDs, and CDs year-round. Please bring them to the library during regular hours. We do not accept magazines, Reader's Digest, encyclopedias, old text, travel or computer books, VHS, or cassettes. All items must be clean and in good, re-sellable condition

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS

The Friends membership drive is ongoing. For a small donation: Students/seniors - $5, Individuals - $10, Family - $15, Businesses - $25, Patron - $50, or Lifetime - $200 you can help support the Friends purchases of museum passes, magazine subscriptions and programs for adults and children. You may print out this membership form [pdf] and mail it with a check payable to the Friends of the Plainville Public Library, Inc., 198 South St., Plainville, MA 02762-1512.

You can help by becoming a member or by coming to our meetings on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 PM from September through June. For more information call the library at 508-695-1784 or email [email protected]

The Plainville Public Library offers museum passes to the following places, which allow discounted admission to many fun places to go with your family. You can reserve your pass up to 60 days in advance online.

Battleship Cove, Boston Children's Museum, *Butterfly Place (mid Feb-Oct), Children's Museum in Easton, EcoTarium, Harvard Museums of History & Science, Maplewood Day Camp & Enrichment Center (Sept-May), Mapparium, Massachusetts State Parks (seasonal), Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, Norman Rockwell Museum, Old Sturbridge Village, Plimoth Patuxet Museums (mid March-Nov), Providence Children’s Museum, Roger Williams Park Zoo (March-Dec), Salem Witch Museum, Save the Bay Hamilton’s Family Aquarium, *Showcase Cinema Tickets, *Southwick Zoo [SOLD OUT for the season as of 8/18/25], The Patriots Hall of Fame, USS Constitution Museum, Winter Skate at Patriot Place and Zoo New England (Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo).

Recycle with the Friends
By donating items you can clear out clutter, help the Friends of the Plainville Public Library raise funds and help save the environment! Donation boxes are located at the Plainville Public Library, Town Hall at the Health Department and the
Highway Department Recycling Center for ink/laser cartridges only.

How can you be a Library Lover? ​

Contribute
  • Consider a tax-deductible gift to your library.
  • Honor or remember a friend with our Honorarium Program.
  •  Establish a book endowment.

Get involved with the Friends:
  •  Become a member.
  • Volunteer and attend the book sales.

Volunteer:
  • Use your expertise to present a program of interest to the community.
  •  Assist the library at special events.

Use and Promote:
  • Visit often and tell your friends to do the same.
  • Attend local town meetings and encourage your elected officials to invest in the library. 
  • Write to your state and federal legislators and demand that library service be viewed and funded as a necessary public service.
  • Speak up for libraries at community groups.

Delivery Box Contest Winner

The Friends of the Plainville Public Library would like to congratulate Cathy Metzger on her winning artwork for the delivery box. Cathy was awarded a $50 check for her submission. The artwork was professionally wrapped by Cool Air Creations, Inc. of Smithfield, RI on October 26th and enhances the entrance to the library.
